Flood and hurricane insurance to be topic at September 13 Press Club

Jim Donelon, Louisiana insurance commissioner, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 13. Donelon will discuss insurance issues of interest during hurricane season as well as the new FEMA National Flood Insurance Program Risk Rating 2.0.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. For everyone’s safety, masks are required except when seated. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Press Club canceled for Aug. 30, will not meet Labor Day, Sept. 6

Because of the danger posed by Hurricane Ida hitting Louisiana on Sunday or Monday, the Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Aug. 30. We will also not meet the following Monday, Sept. 6, because of the Labor Day holiday. We will resume our luncheon meetings on Monday, Sept. 13.

EBR Stormwater Master Plan official will speak at Press Club on Monday, Aug. 16

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will hear about the East Baton Rouge Parish Stormwater Master Plan on Monday, Aug. 16. Melissa Kennedy, project manager with parish contractor HNTB, will provide an overview and update on the plan, which seeks to identify flood-related risks and recommend prioritized capital improvements to mitigate or reverse those risks.
