LSU AgCenter seafood specialist Lucina Lampila will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, Aug. 1.

Lampila will discuss the safety of the seafood coming from the Gulf of Mexico. Seafood from this location is the most tested seafood in the United States. Yet the perception still lingers that it is somehow not as safe as it was before the April 2010 BP oil spill.

Press Club meets on Mondays at De La Ronde Hall, which is located at 320 Third St. in downtown Baton Rouge. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $12 for members and $15 for non-members.

East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Kip Holden will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, July 25.

Holden will discuss the $748,454,619 capital improvements bond package he hopes to ask voters to approve this fall.

Garret Graves, Governor Bobby Jindal’s executive assistant for coastal activities and chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, July 18.

Graves will discuss the challenge of preserving our coast, marshlands, barrier islands and fisheries in the face of coastal erosion, hurricanes, oil spills, floods, man-made levees, rising sea levels, land subsidence, and global climate change.

Sean Duffy, executive vice president and maritime advocate for the Mississippi River Maritime Association, will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, July 11.

Duffy will discuss his association’s efforts to try and persuade the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to spend some $95 million to further dredge the mouth of the Mississippi River.
