LSU Prof. Darr to speak at Press Club on Nov. 4

Joshua Darr, an assistant professor at the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 4. He will address the intersection between media and national/presidential politics. Darr recently visited the Iowa Steak Fry to conduct research on presidential political campaigns, and his recently published research on how local newspaper closures affect partisan politics has received national attention, including on the site FiveThirtyEight. Press Club meets at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Gov. John Bel Edwards will speak about the runoff election for governor at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 28. Republican candidate Eddie Rispone was extended an invitation to participate in what had been envisioned as a forum between both candidates, but his campaign declined the invitation. Belinda Davis to speak at Press Club on Oct. 21

Belinda Davis, a political science professor at LSU, who is running for the Louisiana House representing District 70, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 21. Davis, a Democrat, is running against Barbara Freiberg, a Republican and former member of the Baton Rouge Metro Council, who will not be able to participate because of a scheduling conflict. The runoff election is Nov. 16, with early voting Nov. 2-9. Press Club meets at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Pearson Cross, political commentator, radio show host and professor of government and political science at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, will speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 14. He will discuss the statewide primary election results and what to expect in the November election. Press Club will host forum for State Senate District 15 candidates on Monday, Oct. 7

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum for candidates for State Senate District 15 on Monday, Oct. 7. Gary Chambers, who runs an African American-focused online publication, the Rouge Collection, is challenging incumbent Regina Barrow, who was the state representative for District 29 from 2005 to 2016 before being elected to the state senate. Both candidates are Democrats.
