Morgan Lamandre with STAR will speak at Feb. 7 Press Club

Morgan Lamandre, president and CEO of Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response (STAR), will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 6. She will discuss the state of sexual violence in Louisiana and provide a status of STAR services.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson will speak at Jan. 30 Press Club

Corey Wilson, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission (BREC) will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 30. He will provide an update on BREC initiatives and accomplishments and discuss plans for the future.

Rick Wheat, president and CEO of the Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 23. He will discuss the need for ombudsman services for children in Louisiana.

No Press Club on Jan. 16

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Jan. 16, because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Jan. 23 at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. The speaker will be Rick Wheat, Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, who will discuss the need for ombudsman services for Louisiana children.


LSU marching band director will speak at the Jan. 9 Press Club

Kelvin Jones, director of the LSU Tiger Marching Band, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 9. The band’s collaboration with Lake Charles musician Sean Ardoin and his band Kreole Rock and Soul, titled “Full Circle,” is in the running for a Grammy award for best regional roots album. This is the first time a marching band and a popular genre band have collaborated for a full album. The Grammy awards ceremony will be Feb. 5.
