The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum for candidates for State Senate District 14 on Monday, Sept. 30. The two candidates are state Rep. Pat Smith and Cleo Fields, both Democrats and both veteran politicians. Smith is term-limited as state representative for District 67. Fields’ previous posts include state senator and U.S. Congressman. The forum will begin at noon and conclude at 1 p.m. Press Club meets on Mondays in the East and West Baton Rouge Room at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum for candidates for Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry on Monday, Sept. 9. The three candidates confirmed are the incumbent, Mike Strain, a Republican, and two challengers, both Democrats, Marguerite “Margee” Green, of New Orleans, and Charlie Greer, of Natchitoches Parish. Two other candidates have been invited but have not confirmed, Peter Williams, a Democrat, of Lettsworth, and Bradley Zaunbrecher, a Republican, of Egan.
