Economist Loren Scott to speak at Oct. 31 Press Club

Economist Loren Scott will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Oct. 31.

Scott will discuss his study “The Energy Sector: Still a Giant Economic Engine for the Louisiana Economy.” The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association commissioned Scott to update his study, which looks at the energy sector’s economic impact on Louisiana.

Press Club meets on Mondays at De La Ronde Hall, which is located at 320 Third St. in downtown Baton Rouge. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and members of the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.


100 Black Men Officials to Speak at Oct. 24 Press Club

Adell Brown, president of 100 Black Men, and Donovan Hudson, vice president of 100 Black Men, will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Oct. 24.

Brown and Hudson will discuss some of the organization’s work in the community, including mentoring and classes in ACT preparation, financial literacy and health and wellness.

Secretary of State Candidates to Speak at Oct. 17 Press Club

Secretary of State Tom Schedler and Louisiana House Speaker Jim Tucker will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Oct. 17.

Schedler and Tucker face each other on the Oct. 22 primary election ballot. Both are Republicans.

Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System Executive Director to Speak at Oct. 10 Press Club

Cindy Rougeou, executive director of the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System, will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Oct. 10.

Rougeou will discuss the upcoming vote on Constitutional Amendment No. 2, which, if passed, would apply a percentage of state surplus funds to retirement system debt. Also, Rougeou will respond to the Blueprint Louisiana suggestions to “re-engineer public retirement benefits.”
