La. Community and Technical College System Pres. Richard Nelson will speak at June 1 Press Club

Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Richard Nelson will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 1. Nelson, who took over as president on Jan. 1, 2026, and oversees 12 community and technical colleges across the state, will give an update on the system.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, costs $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, May 25, because of the Memorial Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on June 1 at Drusilla Place Catering, located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. The guest speaker on June 1 is Richard Nelson, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. On June 8, the speaker will be Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple.

Rep. Cleo Fields will speak at the May 4 Press Club about the Voting Rights Act

U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 4. He will discuss the implications of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Louisiana v. Callais, and the Voting Rights Act. Justices ruled Louisiana’s congressional district maps unconstitutional, while absentee ballots for the May 16 primary were in the mail and just three days before the start of early voting.
