Rep. Cleo Fields will speak at the May 4 Press Club about the Voting Rights Act

U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 4. He will discuss the implications of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Louisiana v. Callais, and the Voting Rights Act. Justices ruled Louisiana’s congressional district maps unconstitutional, while absentee ballots for the May 16 primary were in the mail and just three days before the start of early voting.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, costs $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The speaker begins at 12:15 p.m. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and reporters are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer period. Adjournment is at 1 p.m.

For later viewing, Louisiana Public Broadcasting provides a video of the Press Club meetings on its YouTube channel.
