Press Club will not meet on Sept. 2, will resume on Sept. 9

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Sept. 2, because of the Labor Day holiday but will resume on Sept. 9 with more candidate forums ahead of the Oct. 12 election.

The schedule for the remaining forums is as follows: Sept. 9, Commissioner of Agriculture; Sept. 16, Commissioner of Insurance; Sept. 23, Governor; Sept. 30, State Senate District 14; and Oct. 7, State Senate District 15. The forum for District 16 was Aug. 26.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the East and West Baton Rouge Room at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. The candidate forums begin at noon and end at 1 p.m. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions of the candidates.

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum for candidates for State Senate District 16 –– Steve Carter, Franklin Foil and Beverly Brooks Thompson –– on Monday, Aug. 26. The forum will begin at noon and conclude at 1 p.m. Press Club meets on Mondays in the East and West Baton Rouge Room at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Pennington official will talk about new Defense Department grants at Aug. 19 Press Club

Jennifer Rood, Pennington Biomedical Research Center’s associate executive director for Core Services and Resources, will speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 19. She will give an update on the center’s partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, which includes an announcement of two new multimillion-dollar Army health research projects to be conducted at the center over the next several years. The discoveries from the research will help U.S. warfighters maintain muscle mass and mental sharpness under combat. Corey Wilson, BREC superintendent, will speak at Press Club on Aug. 12

Corey Wilson, superintendent of BREC (Recreation and Park Commission for East Baton Rouge Parish), will speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 12. He will give an update on his first six months on the job, accomplishments, large construction projects and a glimpse of the new master plan for the Zoo and Greenwood Community Park, which will be officially unveiled on Aug. 17 at a Party in the Park celebration.
