Public Service Commission candidates will speak at Press Club on Oct. 2

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host three candidates for the Louisiana Public Service Commission on Monday, Oct. 2. Speaking will be former State Rep. Damon Baldone, a lawyer from Houma, who is serving as the interim commissioner; Craig Greene, a Baton Rouge physician; and former State Rep. Lenar Whitney, also from Houma. All three candidates are Republicans to replace Scott Angelle, who resigned to take a job in the Trump administration. Press Club meets on Mondays at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St., in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $13 for members and $17 for nonmembers. State treasurer candidates will speak at Press Club on Sept. 25

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host four candidates for the office of Louisiana Treasurer on Monday, Sept. 25. Speaking will be three Republicans: former Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis, of Baton Rouge; State Sen. Neil Riser, of Columbia; and former State Rep. John Schroder, of Covington; and one Democrat: New Orleans attorney Derrick Edwards. Marketa Walters, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 18. Walters will discuss workforce development and a new grant for the department. Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 11. Sullivan will discuss the evolution of the college system, where it is headed and the challenges that lie ahead as LCTCS enters its 20th anniversary.
