No Press Club on Sept. 4

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Sept. 4, because of the Labor Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Sept. 11 at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.


Mayor-President Broome will speak at Press Club on Aug. 28

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 28. Among the topics she will discuss are the second summer of the Hope campaign and the search for a new chief of police. Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Christian Engle, YMCA director, will speak at Aug. 21 Press Club

Christian Engle, executive director of the YMCA, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 21. In his talk, “The Y is not just the gym down the street,” he will provide an update on YMCA activities and a vision for the future.

Libbie Sonnier, executive director of the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 14. Sonnier will discuss the wins and losses for early childhood education during the recent Louisiana Legislative Session.

Author and journalism professor Bob Mann will speak at Aug. 7 Press Club

Bob Mann, the Manship Chair in Journalism at LSU’s Manship School of Journalism, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 7. Mann will discuss his book “Kingfish U: Huey Long and LSU,” which was published this year by LSU Press. Long was a major supporter of LSU, and his influence over the school was so strong that it nearly lost its accreditation.
