No Press Club on May 30

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, May 30, because of the Memorial Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on June 6 at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant. The speaker will be Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul.


CABL CEO Barry Erwin will speak at the May 23 Press Club

Barry Erwin, president of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL), will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 23. He will discuss current issues before the Louisiana Legislature and provide his organization’s perspective.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and news reporters are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.


John Wyble with the Center for Literacy and Learning will speak at Press Club May 16

John Wyble, president and CEO of the Center for Literacy and Learning, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 16. He will discuss several bills pending before the Legislature that deal with dyslexia and improving literacy in the lower grades. Only one in four students entering fourth grade in Louisiana is a proficient reader.

Monty Sullivan with the community college system will speak at Press Club on May 9

Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 9. He will talk about the Mike Foster TOPS program and challenges the community college system has been dealing with as a result of COVID-19.
