Judge John Michael Guidry will speak at Press Club on Nov. 4

Judge John Michael Guidry will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 4. Guidry, who has been a longtime First Circuit Court of Appeal judge, is set to become the newest Louisiana Supreme Court justice following the Nov. 5 election. The seat Guidry will hold is newly created as a second majority-Black district, giving minorities the chance to hold two of the seven positions. Guidry will discuss the Louisiana judicial system and civil rights.

Press Club hosts candidate forum for EBR Mayor-President on Monday, Oct. 14

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a candidate forum for the East Baton Rouge mayor-president on Monday, Oct. 14, at noon. Participating in the forum are incumbent mayor-president Sharon Weston Broome, a Democrat, who is seeking her third term; Ted James, also a Democrat; and two Republicans — Steve Myers and Nathaniel Hearn. Republican Sid Edwards, who initially accepted the invitation, has since declined. Press Club board member Jim Engster will moderate the forum.

The forum will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

East Baton Rouge Parish District 3 Metro Councilman Rowdy Gaudet will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 7. He will be talking about the proposed changes to Baton Rouge’s Plan of Government, which will be on the ballot Nov. 5.
