Press Club will not meet on July 5, but will resume July 12

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on July 5 because of the Independence Day holiday but will resume meeting on Monday, July 12. The guest speaker will be Chip Kline, chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. The Press Club meets at noon at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant.


EBR Schools Superintendent Sito Narcisse will speak at Press Club on June 28

Sito Narcisse, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 28. Dr. Narcisse will talk about the upcoming school year and what to expect under new leadership.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Parking is free.

Libbie Sonnier, La. Policy Institute for Children, will speak at Press Club on June 21

Libbie Sonnier, executive director of the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 21. She will discuss the state of early care and education in Louisiana following the devastating effects of the pandemic and what can be done to stabilize the situation.

Pennington researcher will speak at June 14 Press Club about new treatments for obesity

Robert Newton, director of the Physical Activity and Ethnic Minorities Health lab at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 14. He will discuss Pennington’s first-of-its kind effort to shift public perception of obesity from a lifestyle choice and character flaw to a complex disease with genetic, biological, environmental and societal factors.

BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson will speak at Press Club on June 7

Corey Wilson, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission, known as BREC, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 7. He will give an update on what’s next after deferment of Senate Bill 205 to break up the district. He will also discuss new construction projects underway.
