Pennington researcher will speak at June 14 Press Club about new treatments for obesity

Robert Newton, director of the Physical Activity and Ethnic Minorities Health lab at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 14. He will discuss Pennington’s first-of-its kind effort to shift public perception of obesity from a lifestyle choice and character flaw to a complex disease with genetic, biological, environmental and societal factors.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Parking is free.

The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.
