Occupy Baton Rouge Representatives to Speak at Nov. 28 Press Club

Representatives from Occupy Baton Rouge will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Nov. 28.

The representatives will discuss how the movement, modeled after Occupy Wall Street, is progressing in Louisiana’s capital city.

Press Club meets on Mondays at De La Ronde Hall, which is located at 320 Third St. in downtown Baton Rouge. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.

Ann Williamson, president and CEO of the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Nov. 21.

Williamson will discuss how to meet the rising demand for human services and how government and private philanthropy can partner with responsible nonprofits to effect positive change during a poor economy and beyond.

State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education candidate Donald Songy to Speak at Nov. 14 Press Club

State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education candidate Donald Songy will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Nov. 14.

Songy and incumbent Chas Roemer face each other in a runoff on the Nov. 19 ballot. Songy is a Democrat and Roemer is a Republican.

Roemer was invited to attend but declined.

John White, superintendent of the Recovery School District, will address the Press Club at noon Monday, Nov. 7.

White will discuss progress the district has made in New Orleans and how such strides can happen elsewhere.
