ACLU legal director will speak at Press Club on Feb. 28

Nora Ahmed, legal director for the Louisiana ACLU, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 28. She will discuss the legal challenges to some of the maps that were passed by Louisiana lawmakers in the special redistricting session. She will also touch on the upcoming legislative session.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

DOTD Secretary Wilson will speak at Press Club on Feb. 21

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn Wilson will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 21. He will discuss the I-10 widening project and the work on the College Drive exit.

John Pierre, chancellor of the Southern University Law Center, will be the speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 14. Pierre will discuss the Law Center’s 75th year and everything they have planned to commemorate the anniversary and push the institution forward.

State Rep. Vincent Pierre will be the speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 7. Pierre, a Democrat from Lafayette, is the new chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, and he will discuss their goals for the next legislative session and redistricting.
