Louisiana Press Association director will speak at Press Club July 6

McHugh David, executive director of the Louisiana Press Association, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, July 6. He will discuss recently passed legislation to strengthen journalism across the state, particularly among the rural areas.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, costs $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Tulane coastal geologist will speak at Press Club on June 22

Tulane coastal geologist Torbjörn Törnqvist will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 22. He will discuss a new study on rising sea levels, the impact on coastal communities like New Orleans, coastal restoration, and planning for relocation in coming decades.

Törnqvist joined Tulane as a professor days before Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was born in Sweden and earned a master’s degree and PhD in physical geography from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
