Baton Rouge Press Club will not meet May 29, will resume June 5

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, May 29, because of the Memorial Day holiday. Meetings will resume on June 5 with speaker Bill Deville, CEO of the Capital Area Transit System (CATS). Press Club meets on Mondays at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St.


Insurance commissioner to speak at Press Club May 22

Jim Donelon, Louisiana insurance commissioner, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 22. He’ll talk about the availability of flood insurance and general insurance issues ahead of the June 1 start of the hurricane season. Press Club meets on Mondays at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St., in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $13 for members and $17 for nonmembers. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.


Charter school head to speak at Press Club May 15

Lonnie Luce, superintendent of University View Academy, an online charter school for grades K through 12, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 15. He will talk about his school’s new program to offer an associate’s degree. Press Club meets on Mondays at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St., in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. Water Institute head to speak at Press Club May 8

Justin R. Ehrenwerth, new CEO and president of the Water Institute, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 8. He will share timely updates on the organization’s five-year history, including the Coastal Master Plan, and what lies ahead as Louisiana strives to gain new opportunities to help other coastal communities with devastating sea level rise, subsidence and coastal development.
