BREC superintendent will speak at Press Club on Nov. 7

Carolyn McKnight, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish parks and recreation system, known as BREC, will address the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 7. She will talk about the tax renewal for maintenance and upkeep that is on the Nov. 8 ballot, as well as provide an update on BREC activities. Press Club meets on Mondays at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St., in the East and West Baton Rouge Room. Parking is free in the garage off Mayflower Street. The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum featuring the two candidates for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District on Monday, Oct. 31. U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond, who has held the position since 2011, is seeking re-election, and East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Kip Holden, is hoping to unseat Richmond. Both are Democrats. Karen Carter Peterson, chair of the state Democratic Party, and Roger Villere, chair of the state Republican Party, are expected to talk about the state’s U.S. Senate race, U.S. House races and other elections-related issues. Sharon Weston Broome, Metro Councilman John Delgado, independent candidate Darryl Gissel, State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle, and State Sen. Mack “Bodi” White.
