Tulane coastal geologist Torbjörn Törnqvist will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 22. He will discuss a new study on rising sea levels, the impact on coastal communities like New Orleans, coastal restoration, and planning for relocation in coming decades.
Törnqvist joined Tulane as a professor days before Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was born in Sweden and earned a master’s degree and PhD in physical geography from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, costs $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The speaker begins at 12:15 p.m. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and news reporters are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer period. Adjournment is at 1 p.m.
