Libbie Sonnier, CEO of the Policy Institute for Children, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 2. She will discuss the importance of early childhood education in the effective development of Louisiana’s economy and Louisiana families.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, is served at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Due to expected winter weather this weekend and subfreezing temperatures on Jan. 26, the Press Club of Baton Rouge is canceling its meeting for that date. She will discuss the AAE’s activities, including protecting consumer rights and needs as giant data centers, which are enormous energy users, are being built in the state.

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Jan. 19, because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. She will discuss the proposed 9.5-mill tax to support the library system over the next 10 years. This proposal will be presented to the Metro Council on Jan. 14.
