Libbie Sonnier, CEO of the Policy Institute for Children, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 2. She will discuss the importance of early childhood education in the effective development of Louisiana’s economy and Louisiana families.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, is served at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Alliance for Affordable Energy Director Logan Burke will speak at Jan. 26 Press Club

Logan Burke, executive director of the Alliance for Affordable Energy, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 26. Her nonprofit organization, based in New Orleans, advocates for equitable, affordable and environmentally responsible energy solutions for Louisiana. She will discuss the AAE’s activities, including protecting consumer rights and needs as giant data centers, which are enormous energy users, are being built in the state.

No Press Club on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 19; meetings resume Jan. 26

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Jan. 19, because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Jan. 26 at Drusilla Place Catering, located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. EBR Librarian Mary Stein will speak about proposed tax millage at Jan. 12 Press Club

Mary Stein, assistant director of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 12. She will discuss the proposed 9.5-mill tax to support the library system over the next 10 years. This proposal will be presented to the Metro Council on Jan. 14.
