Participating in the forum are incumbent mayor-president Sharon Weston Broome, a Democrat, who is seeking her third term; Ted James, also a Democrat; and two Republicans — Steve Myers and Nathaniel Hearn. Republican Sid Edwards, who initially accepted the invitation, has since declined. Press Club board member Jim Engster will moderate the forum.

St. George Mayor Dustin Yates will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 16. Gov. Jeff Landry this year appointed Yates as the interim mayor of the new city voters created in 2019. He will speak on the continuing effort to set up the new city, which voters approved in a 2019 vote but was, until this year, held up amid a court challenge from East Baton Rouge Parish leaders.
