The guest speaker on Jan. 26 is Logan Burke, executive director of the Alliance for Affordable Energy, who will discuss the AAE’s activities, including protecting consumer rights as giant data centers, which are enormous energy users, are being built in the state.

Mary Stein, assistant director of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 12. She will discuss the proposed 9.5-mill tax to support the library system over the next 10 years. This proposal will be presented to the Metro Council on Jan. 14.

Beginning in 2026, Democratic and Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, state Supreme Court, Public Service Commission and Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will advance through party primaries. Third-party candidates will need to gather signatures on a nominating petition.
