No Press Club on Labor Day, Sept. 1

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Sept. 1, because of the Labor Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Sept. 8 at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.


Baton Rouge City Councilman Anthony Kenney to speak at Aug. 25 Press Club

Baton Rouge City Councilman Anthony Kenney, who represents District 2, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 25. He will talk about district projects, concerns, and where the district is right now. Kenney, a Democrat, was elected as a first-time candidate, currently the youngest member serving on the Metro Council. He began his term in January.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal, is served at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non members. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

La. Department of Children and Family Services official to speak at Aug. 18 Press Club

Ashley Sias, chief of staff at the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 18. Sias is a last-minute substitute for Rebecca Harris, secretary of DCFS, who was originally scheduled to speak but is unable to attend. Sias will talk about priorities, projects and goals at the department.

DCFS Secretary Rebecca Harris to speak at Aug. 18 Press Club

Rebecca Harris, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 18. Gov. Jeff Landry appointed Harris this summer, replacing Judge David Matlock, who is staying on with the department as an assistant to Harris. Harris will talk about priorities, projects and goals at the department.

Paul Maassen, general manager of WRKF and WWNO, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 11. He will talk about the impact of the loss of federal funding on our local public radio stations.
