Barry Erwin, president of Council for a Better Louisiana, will speak at the Baton Rouge Press Club on March 4. He will discuss tax reform, a topic for the Legislature for the first time in a number of years. CABL has been monitoring and analyzing proposals from the governor and legislators, as well as other state think-tank groups, and is making recommendations for meaningful tax reform to make the state more economically competitive.

Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City, will be speaking to the Press Club on Feb. 18 about his new statewide campaign called “Defend Louisiana,” which he says is designed to defend gun ownership rights in Louisiana. The initiative is a response to federal efforts to put new limits on guns. Thompson also is co-sponsor of legislation, to be considered in the upcoming regular session, that proposes to ban state enforcement of any new federal restrictions on semi-automatic firearms.
