Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser will speak at Press Club on Nov. 28

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 28. He will be giving an update on tourism in the state as it recovers from the pandemic and share some of the major achievements the tourism department has landed over the year.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Two Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate, Syrita Steib and Gary Chambers Jr., will be the guest speakers at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 24. The other invited speakers, Democrat Luke Mixon and Republican John Kennedy, the incumbent, had scheduling conflicts. Jim Engster, Press Club president, will moderate the discussion. Early voting begins on Oct. 25.

Property tax amendment topic for Oct. 17 Press Club meeting

Wendy Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish assessor, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 17. She will talk about Constitutional Amendment 5, which will be on the Nov. 8 ballot. This amendment would remove the required increase in taxing millages, creating greater accountability in property tax adjustments. Thibodeaux serves on the board of directors for the Louisiana Assessor’s Association and on the Assessor’s Legislative Affairs Committee.

He will talk about print and digital delivery of the news and how they affect democracy. A native of Louisiana, Sanchez was formerly the editor of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.
