BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson will speak at Press Club on June 7

Corey Wilson, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission, known as BREC, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, June 7. He will give an update on what’s next after deferment of Senate Bill 205 to break up the district. He will also discuss new construction projects underway.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at noon, is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Parking is free.

The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.


Press Club will not meet on May 31, but will resume June 7

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on May 31, Memorial Day, but will resume meeting on Monday, June 7. The guest speaker will be Corey Wilson, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission, known as BREC. The Press Club meets at noon at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant.


Pollster Ron Faucheux will speak at Press Club on May 24

Ron Faucheux — author, pollster and political analyst — will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 24. His topic is: Whatever happened to the political center? Faucheux publishes the daily newsletter, Lunchtime Politics, and contributes columns to newspapers nationwide, including the Wall Street Journal and the Baton Rouge Advocate.

La. Community College System president will speak at Press Club at Drusilla on May 17

Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 17. He will talk about Senate Bill 148, which would establish the M.J. Foster Promise Award Program to provide financial assistance to students who enroll in a two-year public institution in Louisiana or who pursue a post-secondary credential required for certain high-demand, high-wage jobs.

La. Wildlife and Fisheries Dept. leaders will speak at Press Club on May 10

Jack Montoucet, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 10. He will be joined by Undersecretary Bryan McClinton. They will be discussing the agency’s proposal to restructure and increase hunting and fishing licensing fees. Lt. General Russel Honoré will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, May 3. He will be the first speaker as the Press Club resumes its regular weekly luncheon meetings at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Honoré will discuss legislative issues pertaining to the Green Army and his investigation of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. April 19 Baton Rouge Press Club candidate forum is canceled

At the last minute, both candidates in the runoff for the 2nd Congressional District, Karen Carter Peterson and Troy Carter, have canceled their appearances at today’s scheduled candidate forum, sponsored by the Press Club of Baton Rouge. The event had been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19, at the Burden Conference Center at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens.


Baton Rouge Press Club will host forum for congressional candidates April 19 at 1:30 p.m.

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a forum on Monday, April 19, for the two candidates in the runoff for the 2nd Congressional District, Karen Carter Peterson and Troy Carter, both Democrats and both state senators from New Orleans. The hour-long forum will start at 1:30 p.m. and will be at the Burden Conference Center at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, 4560 Essen Lane South, at the intersection with I-10. Masks will be required, and there will be social distancing. Parking is free at the center. Jim Engster, president of the Press Club, will moderate. Only members of the media and the Press Club will be allowed to ask questions. The election is April 24. The 2nd Congressional District is a majority Black district, centered in New Orleans but stretches up the Mississippi River to north Baton Rouge.


Press Club to resume luncheon meetings on May 3 at Drusilla

Beginning Monday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m., we will resume our weekly, in-person Press Club luncheon meetings at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant. The cost will be $20 for Press Club members (join now if you haven’t already) and $25 for nonmembers. We look forward to seeing you. Press Club will host candidate forum on April 5

Mark your calendars for April 5 when the Press Club of Baton Rouge will host a candidate forum featuring the run-off candidates for the 2nd Congressional District. The in-person meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. and be outdoors under the pavilion at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Masks will be required. More details will be forthcoming.
