EBR School Superintendent Drake will speak at Press Club on March 5

Warren Drake, superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, March 5. He will discuss the importance of the community’s continued support for the April 2018 tax renewal. The successful renewal will help the school system build community/neighborhood schools, re-imagine and renovate historic schools, provide state-of-the-art technology, offer whole child, quality programming, and continue to attract and retain quality staff. Wildlife and Fisheries officials will speak at Press Club on Feb. 26

Secretary Jack Montoucet and other representatives from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will discuss their push for the first overall license fee hike in 15 years, aside from a 2014 increase for saltwater fishing licenses. The license increase will appear as a bill during the 2018 regular legislative session. LDWF, which relies on oil and gas revenues and federal funding, does not receive state general fund dollars.

U.S. Rep. Abraham will speak at Press Club on Feb. 19

U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham, who represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional district, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Feb. 19. He will provide a Congressional update on the recently passed budget, the military, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicare. As Louisiana’s only representative on the House Agriculture Committee, he will provide an update on the new farm bill. John Kirwan, recently named executive director of LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center will address the Baton Rouge Press Club on Monday, Jan. 29. Kirwan will discuss some of the discoveries being highlighted during the 30th anniversary of Pennington Biomedical Research Center, introduce a few of the data points from a recently conducted public awareness poll, and give a glimpse into the future for the institution.
