University of Louisiana System president will speak at Press Club on Oct. 9

Jim Henderson, president and CEO of the University of Louisiana System, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 9. Henderson will unveil a new strategic framework for the largest university system in the state. Public Service Commission candidates will speak at Press Club on Oct. 2

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will host three candidates for the Louisiana Public Service Commission on Monday, Oct. 2. Speaking will be former State Rep. Damon Baldone, a lawyer from Houma, who is serving as the interim commissioner; Craig Greene, a Baton Rouge physician; and former State Rep. Lenar Whitney, also from Houma. All three candidates are Republicans to replace Scott Angelle, who resigned to take a job in the Trump administration. Maxine Crump to speak at Press Club on Aug. 21

Maxine Crump, president and CEO of Dialogue on Race Louisiana, will speak to the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 21. Crump, a journalist who was the first black reporter at WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge and the first African-American female to live in a dormitory at LSU, will discuss the significance of the deadly racial clash in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month. She will also talk about learning in 2016 that some of her ancestors had been sold as slaves in 1838 by Georgetown University.
