Assembly on School-Based Health Care Representatives to Speak at May 23 Press Club

Louisiana Assembly on School-Based Health Care Board of Director Ryan Pasternak and Sue Catchings, past president of National Assembly on School-Based Health Care,will speak to the Baton Rouge Press club at noon Monday, May 23.

Pasternak and Catchings will discuss what services are provided to children, how they are funded, and how the proposed state budget cuts would impact the services.

Press Club meetings are at noon on Mondays at De La Ronde Hall, which is located at 320 Third St. in downtown Baton Rouge. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and is $12 for members and $15 for non-members.

The public is invited but only members of the Press Club and members of the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.


State Rep. John LaBruzzo to speak at Monday, May 16, Press Club

State Representative John LaBruzzo will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, May 16.

LaBruzzo will discuss a bill he has authored that would make drug testing mandatory for at least 20 percent of welfare recipients.

State Rep. Hollis Downs to speak Monday, May 9

State Rep. Hollis Downs will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, May 9.

Downs will discuss a constitutional amendment and an accompanying statutory act that would increase the minimum annual registration or license tax on certain vehicles. The revenue would go to a new fund called the Transportation Infrastructure Growth of Economy Through Roads. The fund would support projects that would relieve congestion in metropolitan areas across the state.

Leslie Jacobs to speak to Press Club Monday, April 25

Leslie Jacobs, an education reform advocate and former member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, is slated to speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge’s meeting at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 25.
Jacobs will discuss post Hurricane Katrina education reforms in New Orleans, particularly how the charter schools are doing there versus charter schools in Baton Rouge and other parts of Louisiana.

Monday’s presentation will start a half hour earlier than usual — 11:30 a.m. — because the regular legislative session begins Monday at 1 p.m.

Sherri McConnell, executive director of Louisiana Economic Development’s Entertainment Industry Development, is slated to speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge’s meeting at noon Monday, April 18.

LSU economist Loren Scott is slated to speak at the Press Club of Baton Rouge’s meeting at noon Monday, April 11.
Scott will discuss the state’s economy, the Haynesville Shale, as well as unveil a new report.

LSU AgCenter Economist John Westra to Speak at March 28 Press Club

LSU AgCenter Economist John Westra will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, March 28.

Westra will release the numbers from the 2010 Ag Summary, which shows that unlike some of the rest of the economy, agriculture in Louisiana had a good year last year, and both the forestry and poultry industries rebounded from 2009. Overall, the report shows agriculture contributed $9.9 billion to the state’s economy in 2010, up 20 percent from 2009.

Former State Senator Mike Robichaux and Lafourche Parish physician will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, March 21.

Robichaux will discuss the impact of the BP oil spill on the health of South Louisiana residents. He also will provide an analysis of the medical cost to the area as the April 20th anniversary of the Deepwater Ho-rizon accident approaches.

Kirby Goidel to release results of 2011 Louisiana Survey at March 14 Press Club

Kirby Goidel, director of the Manship School of Journalism’s Research Facility, will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, March 14.

Goidel will release the latest results from the 2011 Louisiana Survey,which includes information about whether residents think the state is headed in the right direction, people’s confidence levels in state government, and public preferences for handling the state’s budget shortfall.

Glen Duncan will discuss the development of the state flag at March 7 Press Club

Glen Duncan, an independent communications practitioner and former director of communications at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, will speak to the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon Monday, March 7.

Duncan will discuss the legal and historical research, and modern-day work that went into developing the first officially specified state flag that was unveiled Nov. 22 at the swearing-in of Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne.
