LSU climatologist will speak at Press Club on Aug. 29

On Aug. 29, the 17th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina coming ashore, the speaker for the Press Club of Baton Rouge luncheon meeting will be LSU geology professor and climatologist Jill Trepanier.

Trepanier is certified to fly into the middle of a hurricane and trained with the United States Marine Corps. At LSU she teaches classes on geography, meteorology, hurricane climatology and tropical atmospheres. Her research focuses on predicting the location hurricanes will make landfall, when they will make landfall and the severity of the storm at that point.

Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and news reporters are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.
