No Press Club on Jan. 16

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Jan. 16, because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Jan. 23 at Drusilla Place Catering, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. The speaker will be Rick Wheat, Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, who will discuss the need for ombudsman services for Louisiana children.


LSU marching band director will speak at the Jan. 9 Press Club

Kelvin Jones, director of the LSU Tiger Marching Band, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Jan. 9. The band’s collaboration with Lake Charles musician Sean Ardoin and his band Kreole Rock and Soul, titled “Full Circle,” is in the running for a Grammy award for best regional roots album. This is the first time a marching band and a popular genre band have collaborated for a full album. The Grammy awards ceremony will be Feb. 5.

Press Club will not meet again in 2022, and will resume Jan. 9 with the director of the Grammy-nominated LSU marching band

The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet again in 2022. Meetings will resume on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. The first speaker will be Kelvin Jones, director of the LSU Tiger Marching Band, which has been nominated for a Grammy award for the first time in its history.

Speakers to follow include Rick Wheat with Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services; Corey Wilson, BREC commissioner; Adam Knapp, BRAC CEO; and Gen. Russel Honoré.

Michael Faulk, head of La. Association of School Superintendents, will speak at Dec. 12 Press Club

Michael Faulk, executive director of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Dec. 12. Faulk will discuss the school accountability system and what’s needed for post-secondary and career pathways for high school students.

Sarah Scheuermann, a member of Louisiana Families for Vaccines, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Dec. 5. Scheuermann is a pediatric nurse and advocate for immunizations. Louisiana Families for Vaccines is a volunteer network of parents, teachers and health-care professionals, who support public health legislation.

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 28. He will be giving an update on tourism in the state as it recovers from the pandemic and share some of the major achievements the tourism department has landed over the year.

Veneeth Iyengar, the governor’s executive director of broadband development and connectivity, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 21. He will discuss the state’s efforts to address broadband accessibility and affordability.
